BIOCHEMISTRY

What is Biochemistry?
Important biological molecules

For the most part, biochemistry is the study of chemical processes occurring in living organisms. However, this simple definition includes a diverse range of research that touches almost all aspects of our lives.

Biochemistry is the science that generally deals with substances such as enzymes, carbohydrates, amino acids, fats, proteins, hormones, DNA, RNA, dyes, and others that form the basis of life in living organisms.

Biochemistry describes the origin, composition, function, deficiency symptoms, biochemical reactions of living organisms. One can understand all the chemical reactions that occur at the molecular level in a living cell or organism by biochemistry. The questions like, What is life?, What is the death of an organism? , What are the basic elements and compounds that make us alive? etc. all are addressed by biochemists.
Biochemistry scope and importance
It will be difficult to overstate the importance of biochemistry in our lives. No doubt many of the amazing discoveries and transformations await us.

One of the most emerging issues in our society, the degradation of the environment, is addressed by biochemists. Some examples of ongoing work include improvements in photosynthesis efficiency to increase crop yield, bioremediation of polluted soils, development of new feedstocks, biofuel chemistry, genetic mapping of biodiversity monitoring systems, and methodologies for enhancing carbon capture. These and other biochemical technologies may play an important role in our efforts to find a sustainable way of living.

Biochemical Chemistry in Medicine
Biochemistry is a valuable subject in medicine, without which there would be no progress in such areas as physiology, pathology, undernourishment, and hypothyroidism. Biochemistry deals with all health issues and their treatment with chemicals called medicines.

The Importance of             Biochemistry in Nursing
In nursing, the importance of clinical biochemistry is crucial. When the patient is in hospital nurses continuously monitor his/her condition and practice clinical biochemistry to improve the patient’s health. Almost all diseases or disorders have some biochemical involvement. So the diagnosis of any clinical condition is easily possible through biochemical tests.
Importance of Biochemistry in Agriculture
In agriculture, biochemistry plays an important role in agriculture, fisheries, poultry, sericulture, beekeeping, etc. by increasing the growth/production of living organisms by changing their physiology and managing their diseases.
Importance of Biochemistry in Nutrition
In nutrition, biochemistry describes food chemistry. To maintain health, it is necessary to consume balanced quantities of biochemicals such as macro, micronutrients, vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, and water.
Importance of Biochemistry in Pharmacy
In the pharmacy, biochemistry describes drug composition, storage, metabolism, half-life, etc. The Importance of
Biochemistry in Plants
Biochemistry of plants has given the way to understand how food is manufactured in them and why they are autotrophs, i.e. they do not rely on other living organisms to get food.
Examples of biochemistry in everyday life

Perhaps the most prominent application of biochemistry in our daily existence is in the field of health research. Biochemistry has been key to our growing understanding of countless health issues; from diabetes to atherosclerosis to cancer.
Biochemical instruments have identified gene and protein imbalances and pathways leading to disease, and in many cases, we refer to prevention or treatment. From aspirin to interleukin, the treatment of human diseases depends heavily on biochemistry.
Many other, less visible aspects of our society are being changed and improved through biochemical research. The industry is converted because biochemistry is used to generate new materials with new properties or to improve the efficiency of old processes.
Law enforcement increasingly relies on biochemistry-based forensics to provide evidence in investigations. Archeology progresses rapidly as genetic and theoretical investigations into the remains of our ancestors illuminate much of human history and prehistory.
